Dr. Jane Norman, Chair and Producer/ Director WORLDEAF Cinema Festival, joined the Communication Studies Department in the fall of 2002 after serving as faculty and chair of the Television, Photography and Digital Media department at Gallaudet University. She also served as faculty in the Theatre Arts department at Gallaudet. In 1985, Dr. Norman was contracted by the University's television department to re-design the pilot, Images into the Emmy-award winning Deaf Mosaic, a television magazine-format which aired nationwide for ten years.
Dr. Norman teaches Mass Communication, Images of Deaf People in Media, Public Relations and special topic courses related to the media. She brings a wealth of experience from the field as a teacher, video producer and international media consultant. She served as the keynote speaker at the International Deaf Film Festivals in Rochester, New York; Canada and Japan, and one of the invited speakers at the Berkeley Deaf Film Festival at the University of California, Berkeley's Pacific Archive.
Dr. Norman served as chair of the Arts program and producer for the Festival unit for Deaf Way in 1989 and the coordinator for the 2002 Deaf Way II Deaf Film Festival at Gallaudet University. Dr. Norman also served as Gallaudet University Academic Affairs Diversity Fellow during 2006-2007.
Dr. Norman is currently serving as the producer and director of the Gallaudet University WORLDEAF Cinema Festival. She is also the curator and project director for the planning of the Gallaudet University Museum. |
